Press Release: May 14, 2009 – The Coalition for Quality and Patient Safety of Chicagoland (CQPS), announced today it has reached an agreement with ECRI Institute Patient Safety Organization (PSO) to implement a Chicago-based PSO dedicated to improving safety and quality of care in the Chicago metro region.
CQPS achieved listing by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a federal Patient Safety Organization under the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005.
By contracting with a national PSO and IT vendor(s), CQPS will collect incident report and other patient safety work product (PSWP) data from contracted (member) healthcare providers, and provide analysis, reporting, collaborative learning, and dissemination of best practices and patient safety advisories to advance the culture of safety.
The CQPS PSO's unique value will be its focus on local experience, patterns, trends, and patient safety initiatives specific to Chicago and Illinois . The CQPS PSO will coordinate its efforts with regional hospital and primary care associations, Illinois Department of Public Health, other patient safety and quality improvement agencies and existing patient safety collaboratives across the state to capitalize on synergies and avoid duplication of effort.
Through its relationships with vendors, healthcare organizations, professional associations, and IOMC and CQPS leadership and staff, the CQPS PSO will access a broad spectrum of professional experience and expertise to carry out its required and additional patient safety activities for this community.
Our goal is for every Illinois provider to join the CQPS PSO to safeguard the ability to conduct self-improvement and collaborate with other facilities to improve the quality and safety of healthcare in a legally protected and confidential manner.
